The Future is Sustainable Agriculture – The BASF Center for Sustainable Agriculture Helps Show Us the Way

The term “sustainability” has varying definitions based on industry or person that uses it, and in agriculture it can mean so much more. In agriculture, the practice of sustainability is to meet the food and fiber demand needs of today without compromising the needs of future generations. This approach is a priority within BASF and is key to establishing a reliable food production system while supporting farmers and their yield.  Learn more about the BASF Center for Sustainable Agriculture.

BASF discusses the future of ag at the 2022 Commodity Classic Show

The biggest Job on Earth is probably the best way to describe what farmers do day in and day out. At BASF, we recognize just how big that job is. That’s why we’re committed to being the partner growers can rely on for the performance and innovation they need to reach their full potential.

The Farm to Fashion event provides a platform for farmers and supply chain partners to discuss transparency and traceability in the cotton industry

National fashion and textile editors recently took a break from their busy deadlines and embarked on a virtual trip called Farm to Fashion: an e3 Sustainable Cotton event. Led by BASF Fiber Development Manager Jennifer Crumpler, editors traveled on a sustainable cotton journey, beginning in the field and ending with jeans.

Taking the damaging bite from hungry wireworms

Wireworms are a serious concern, causing substantial crop damage across the Pacific Northwest. The leading treatment today — neonicotinoid treated seeds — only results in the intoxication of the wireworm. This “drunk” effect can protect initial stand establishment and seedling development but the lack of direct mortality allows the larval development and life cycle progression to continue, leading to population growth and continued crop damage. For the 2021 growing season, BASF anticipates having a more effective way to stop wireworms.

BASF’s Sefina® Inscalis® Insecticide approved for use in California crops

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 16, 2020 – BASF’s Sefina® insecticide has received registration for use in California. Sefina insecticide delivers strong control against piercing and sucking insects while being gentle on beneficial insects and pollinators. It is labeled for use for a variety of crops including cotton, citrus, fruiting vegetables, and cucurbits.

A stunning new wireworm seed treatment does more than stun

For the 2021 growing season, BASF anticipates bringing its two newest seed treatments to market — Teraxxa™ seed treatment and Teraxxa F4 seed treatment — giving growers a powerful new weapon that does what no current treatment can do: induce mortality in wireworms. And not just temporarily stunning the pest, but actually eliminating them for in-season control and population reductions.

Are you following these herbicide guidelines?

With multiple herbicide-tolerant trait platforms on the market, knowing what crop protection options you can leverage on your platform of choice will be vital for success this season. These new trait platforms enable more herbicide options for weed control than ever before, giving you confidence in your crop protection plan. If you’re planting LibertyLink®, Enlist™ or XtendFlex® enabled cotton acres and plan on applying Liberty® herbicide, here are some helpful application tips to ensure superior weed control:

Herbicide application tips for superior weed control

As last year’s growing season is in the rearview mirror, it’s important to keep in mind the impact the 2019 season will have on 2020. Delayed planting and a high volume of prevent plant acres across the country required many farmers to abandon their preferred herbicide program and weed control practices. This year, it will be critical to protect against large weed-seed banks by utilizing multiple herbicides.

Innovation: A family matter for Nebraska RevX Fields growers

Farming for Jena Ochsner and her husband Levi — a fifth-generation farmer — is truly a family affair, as they work alongside their young son and Levi’s parents. The pair is always trying new practices on their operation to ensure high yields, including testing new products on their corn and soybean acres and participating in programs like BASF’s RevX Fields.

Inoculation is critical for managing saturated or flooded soybean fields

Each year, many parts of the U.S. experience excessive rainfall, flooding or extended periods of saturated soils. These wet soybean acres experience a significant reduction in the critically important, nitrogen-fixing rhizobia bacteria. Rhizobia are bacteria that, after becoming established inside the soybean root nodules, enable soybeans to fix nitrogen from the atmosphere and make it available to the plants.

Powdery Mildew and Botrytis Prevention: Putting Together a Program for Grape Growers

Grape growers experience varying disease pressure from one season to the next. Not knowing the level of disease pressure or when it will occur, growers should establish a consistent disease management plan to protect their crop from year to year.

BASF welcomes 15th class of top cotton growers into its FiberMax One Ton Club

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC, APRIL 9, 2020 – BASF celebrated cotton growers who achieved four-bale or greater yields by welcoming them to the exclusive FiberMax® One Ton Club for their 2019 harvest results. Ninety-two members qualified for the club this year, including 14 first-time members bringing total membership to 1,206 cotton growers.

Ohio RevX Fields grower earns higher yields with innovations

Ohio corn and soybean grower Cory Atley is no stranger to innovation on his operation. Atley challenges the norm through all aspects of his farm. From participating in programs like BASF’s RevX Fields, to trying new innovations through his own plot tests or consulting with growers in his area about what has worked for his fields, Atley isn’t afraid to try it all.

Seven steps for spraying success

As we begin to prep for another crop year, take a moment to cover some important fundamentals to consider for any spray application this growing season. Here is a list compiled by technical experts at BASF that applicators should keep in mind:

Effective weed control for dicamba-tolerant soybean and cotton fields

It’s no secret that 2019 was a difficult season for growers across the U.S. Delayed planting due to wet weather led to a series of interruptions throughout the year, compromising the success and timing of herbicide applications and harvest for many.

Weed Control for No-Till Soybeans

The wet conditions experienced by many growers in the Midwest during the 2019 season may be behind us, but the effects will be long-lasting.

New Chemistry to Fight Early Blight in Potatoes

For potato growers battling early blight, brown spot and black dot, BASF has introduced a revolutionary new disease management tool. Provysol fungicide is the first and only isopropanol azole fungicide, making it a truly unique solution for disease control.
