Inaugural Agronomic Performance Trial (APT) Summit

BASF kicked off 2019 with the inaugural Agronomic Performance Trial (APT) Summit, held just prior to Beltwide Cotton Conference in New Orleans in January. More than 200 growers participate in BASF’s APT program, which helps them test and select new cottonseed varieties for the upcoming growing season.

The APT Summit program gave growers a chance to learn more about the new varieties that advanced from their trials, and how those varieties fit into specific geographies, growing conditions and management strategies.

“The APT program was launched in 2006 and is the cornerstone of our work to advance new varieties,” said Kenny Melton, Western Region Agronomic Services Manager for BASF. “More than 50 varieties have been introduced since the launch of the program, and we value the partnership and contribution of our APT growers.”

The variety trials allow BASF to evaluate performance under real world grower conditions, with larger plots and varied production management programs, as well as in broader geographies with more locations. From California to the Carolinas, there were 175 trials in 2018, which led to five new cottonseed varieties being added to the BASF product line for 2019.
