Introducing Inscalis® insecticide

 

A new active ingredient for old pest problems

 

Aphids, psyllids and whiteflies are well-known menaces to many farmers. These piercing-sucking insects can cause costly damage to a field, meaning stopping them in their tracks early is essential. To help manage these insect pests, BASF developed Inscalis insecticide to assist farmers. This mode of action will power two products: Sefina™ Inscalis insecticide and Versys™ Inscalis insecticide.

 

Both Sefina Inscalis and Versys Inscalis insecticides are a foliar-applied chemistry that will provide a unique mode of action for the control of Asian citrus psyllids, aphids and whiteflies in specific specialty and row crops. These products will rapidly stop piercing-sucking insects in their tracks by disrupting their chordotonal organs, which control an insect’s sensory responses including hearing, orientation and balance. By attacking these organs, Sefina Inscalis and Versys Inscalis insecticides can stop the pests from feeding and reduce the spread of pathogens.

The Inscalis insecticide formulation

 

The novel mode of action powering these products is a translaminar chemistry, moving through the leaf to control target pests that may be living on the underside of leaves. This chemistry has also shown movement within the plant toward the tips of leaves as leaf tissue expands during plant growth.

 

Sefina Inscalis and Versys Inscalis insecticides will exhibit low toxicity to non-target organisms, such as bees and other beneficial insects, allowing farmers to have a more flexible application timing. As insecticides with a strong residual profile, Sefina Inscalis and Versys Inscalis insecticides can be easily integrated into current insect control programs.
